Splendido now open until 30 November 2024.Monks, pirates and aristocrats have all played their part in the backstory of the Splendido, a Belmond Hotel, in Portofino. But it was during the dolce vita heyday that it gained true fame. This was when screen legends, such as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, were drawn to the glamour of the Italian Riviera and the seclusion of the former monastery. Perched on a hillside overlooking Portofino Bay, Splendido was carefully positioned by its monastic builders to capture both the views and the sunlight. Its grounds embrace terraced, palm-filled gardens and breezy outdoor spaces. A heated saltwater pool affords dramatic views of the emerald sea and gleaming yachts below.
